Central Portugal

is arguably Portugal’s most beautiful and unspoiled region it also has more than its fair share of monuments and historical towns. It has stunning beaches with a big surfing, wind surfing and kite surfing following; however the beaches remain relatively quite. Three of the attractions in the region are world heritage sights, namely the Convento De Cristo or the castle of the Knights Templar in Tomar, the countries largest church in Alcobaca and the abbey at Batalha.

The River ZezereCoimbra Portugal’s third city and old capital is a very pretty town with a most impressive cathedral boasting the education of many of Portugal’s most famous sons. Just outside of Coimbra are the Roman Ruins of Conimbriga.

The area also boasts some stunning hills in the area south east of Coimbra, with breathtaking panoramic views there is also a number of beautiful rivers and lakes most notably near the town of Ferreira Do Zezere, where a growing number of people are moving to with a special emphasis on boating of all sorts there is a variety of property for sale in the area and some very smart villas and waterfront properties being built.

For the outdoor types there is no shortage of activities with forest walks, mountain biking and canoeing, all ideal in the area and still plenty of scope for setting up small companies to accommodate these activities. The travel infrastructure is moving on at pace in the area with a number of major roads recently built or being built linking up the major towns and also a new airport near the town of Leiria (opening 2015) will open up the area significantly and will certainly ensure the area as a good property investment.
Tourism is also on the up throughout the area with the government giving grants to inland rural tourism projects. The hotels are varied throughout the region and offer a price range for everyone there is also a variety of campsites in the area giving flexibility to your visit. Also there is an ever increasing range of apartments and houses for short term let.

 

Property in central Portugal

is becoming more and more sought after by northern Europeans possibly due to the increasing exposure from the television. It is still keenly priced but is starting to show good returns 12% per annum 2005-2006 10% 2007add this to your potential rental income and the investment gets better.

Especially considering the upsurge in the holiday market in the Central Portugal region.

There are at present a growing number of resort type projects recently aproved or soon to be aproved in the area so opportunities for the serious investor is on the way.
